- Negotiators from the European Parliament and Council have agreed to establish the European Health Data Space (EHDS) to facilitate secure and easy access to personal health data across the EU. This initiative will set up a legal framework for health data use, ensuring EU-wide electronic access for patients to download their health data and enabling healthcare professionals to access essential patient data for treatment. Additionally, it involves creating national health data access points through MyHealth@EU, developing a European EHR exchange format and standardizing data for interoperability. Read More
- The World Health Organization (WHO) published a discussion paper,' Benefits and Risks of Using Artificial Intelligence for Pharmaceutical Development and Delivery.' This document offers guidance for the broader use of AI throughout the pharmaceutical development and delivery processes. It addresses the potential advantages and future promise alongside risks and ethical concerns of AI touch in pharmaceuticals, focusing on maximizing public health benefits through responsible governance. - The HIMSS24 Exhibition and Conference, the foremost event in healthcare IT, attracted over 35,000 field professionals from around the globe between March 11-15. This key event provided a worldwide stage for sharing innovative ideas and advancements in healthcare technology. Attendees ranged from experts and policymakers to consultants and practitioners, all converging to exchange insights, best practices and success stories to drive healthcare IT forward. - At a notable event, three health Team Europe Initiatives (TEIs) were launched, a partnership between the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) for equitable access to global health. This collaboration strengthens health security, supports African public health institutes in enhancing health security, assists African public health institutes and boosts digital health. By adopting a One Health approach, this initiative aims to improve the efficiency of the African CDC by upgrading laboratories, surveillance and research at various levels. - Te Whatu Ora project, also known as Health New Zealand, is advancing to the third phase of its National Data Platform (NDP) project with a target completion date of June 2024. This crucial phase involves migrating essential and complex data sets, shifting towards routine operations and establishing a data catalog for National Collections. This progression addresses the critique surrounding New Zealand's health reforms, especially the persistent dependence on manual data management after merging 20 district health boards. - At the HIMSS24 conference, a new coalition of healthcare leaders established the Trustworthy & Responsible AI Network (TRAIN), a collaborative effort to implement responsible AI principles in healthcare to enhance AI's quality, safety and reliability.
