NEWS 📌
- The World Health Organization (WHO) released a strategy report titled ‘Strategy for optimizing national routine health information systems’ to help countries strengthen their Routine Health Information Systems (RHIS). This strategy allows them to monitor better and deliver healthcare services, especially primary care, with five key goals as follows: integrating different health data systems, making the systems work together seamlessly, basing decisions on data and evidence, aligning the systems with national health goals and building partnerships to achieve these goals. These goals are part of a more considerable WHO effort of SCORE (Survey, Count, Optimize, Review, Enable) to improve health data collection and use worldwide. The ultimate goal is to improve health services at all levels, from national governments to individual communities. Read More
- The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) investigates the cyberattack on Change Healthcare, which processes healthcare information for millions. The attack potentially compromised patient data and disrupted healthcare operations nationwide. The investigation will focus on whether a data breach occurred and whether Change Healthcare and its parent company, UnitedHealth Group, complied with HIPAA regulations. This attack is a significant development because the Change Healthcare attack could be one of the most significant health data breaches ever reported. The HHS is urging UnitedHealth Group and other insurers to take steps to mitigate the attack's impact on patients and providers. Read More
- The European office of the World Health Organization has introduced a Telehealth Quality of Care Tool. This instrument concentrates on three primary aspects to evaluate the standards of telehealth services: people-centeredness, clinical effectiveness and safety. In improving patient access to care, this tool aims for positive health outcomes, effective communication, safeguarding patient privacy, considering financial factors and upholding ethical standards. This tool serves a dual purpose: it enables countries to examine their telehealth framework comprehensively and assists organizations in determining the alignment of their telehealth services with established quality benchmarks. Additionally, the tool is structured for biennial updates. Read More
- Behavioral health integration is a growing priority for healthcare and the government. The leaders at the Office of Policy of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) try to find ways for improving care and electronic health records (EHR) systems need to be more user-friendly for behavioral health needs. Behavioral health data isn't easily accessible or transferable between systems due to a lack of optimization in EHRs and policy obstacles. To address these issues, ONC and SAMSHA are collaborating on a plan to revamp EHR systems and improve data interoperability. They recently issued grants to states to strengthen technical assistance and develop a new 'informational resource' for summarizing behavioral health care. This resource, requiring optimization for current use, holds great promise for future applications. Read More
